The ENT service at Emerald Avenue Medical Clinic covers the ear, the nose and paranasal sinuses, the throat and the voice, along with the surgery attached to each.
The range runs from the everyday, an ear infection, a blocked nose, a throat that will not settle, through to the conditions that need an operation: chronic sinusitis, a deviated septum, nasal polyps, snoring and sleep-related breathing disorders. Endoscopic examination forms part of the consultation, so the nasal passages, sinuses and larynx are looked at directly rather than inferred.
Sleep-related breathing disorders are worked through alongside sleep physicians and dentists. The clinic's dental team fits anti-snoring appliances, so the appliance route and the surgical route can be weighed against each other in one place.
The first appointment is a consultation with the ENT surgeon. You will be asked about your symptoms and their history, followed by an examination of the ears, nose and throat, usually including endoscopy.
Where imaging or a hearing test is needed it is arranged and the findings are discussed with you directly. You will leave with a plan setting out the options open to you, including the non-surgical route where there is one.
